Durban is sold out. On 2 October, Orlando Pirates announced that MTN8 final tickets had gone. On Saturday 10 October, the Buccaneers meet Mamelodi Sundowns at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Two ambitions collide: Pirates want to extend their title streak; Sundowns want to end it.
For Orlando Pirates, continuity is the prize. They are chasing a fifth straight title in this competition. That makes the final particularly significant: retaining the cup again would confirm consistency in a tournament where one match can end a campaign. The PSL and SuperSport report this target.
Durban also holds a shared memory for the finalists. SuperSport recalls that Pirates won the 2023 final against Sundowns on penalties after a goalless game. That result adds context to the rivalry, but cannot predict Saturday. Three seasons have passed; this final will be decided on the pitch.
For Sundowns, beating Pirates would mean both lifting the trophy and ending their opponents’ run. The challenge is more than revenge for 2023. The Buccaneers’ recent MTN8 dominance is at stake. For Pirates, that status brings pressure: continuity can be a strength without being a guarantee.
The stadium and crowd set the scene. The sell-out announcements issued on the same day by the club and organiser show the anticipation, not the outcome. On Saturday, Pirates can extend their streak or Sundowns can stop it. That is the central question in a final worth following beyond the score.
